LEADER
The leader of the clan. Leaders must travel to the enlightened to receive their nine lives. Leaders are rumored to inherit the memories of past leaders, a gift from the Enlightened, but also a curse as it seems to cause severe emotional turmoil in the beginning as the memories first accumulate.
DEPUTY
Next in line to be leader, the deputy is appointed by the Order through a moon pool gathering in which they tell the medicine cat. The reason a deputy is selected in this way, is simply because the deputy is the future of the clan and the next leader; it's very important that they are the best choice possible in the eyes of StarClan.
ELDER
A cat of old age who has retired from warrior duties to live out their days peacefully in camp. BoarClan does not have elders as they believe in warriors serving out their duties until their Rite of the Boar, which involves them dying at the teeth of their own leader.
MEDICINE CAT
A cat who heals the clan of ailments using nearby herbs. They may also mend other warriors of other clans. When their apprentice takes over their place, they take the trek to join the Enlightened, following River Shallow all the way up to the Thousand's Rest. Retired medicine cats very rarely see their clan ever again, making it rare that they have families (though not against the code.)
MEDICINE CAT APPRENTICE
One who trains beneath a medicine cat for several moons, longer than an average apprentice, before finally being named a full medicine cat.
QUEEN
A cat expecting a litter.
KIT
A cat below the age of 6 moons who awaits their apprentice ceremony.
WARRIOR
One who has trained under another warrior and serves their clan, upholding the warrior code and ready to train other apprentices. They hunt, patrol, and defend their camp.
APPRENTICE
A cat who trains beneath a warrior until the warrior and leader agree they are ready.
TENDER
A tender is a cat who is of great help around camp, who has found themselves to be incapable of serving further as a warrior. Many cats can adapt well, whilst others may suffer chronic pain or other ailments that have affected their warrior duties. They are named as such because they tend to all other duties a warrior may not have time for.
It's worth noting that it is against the warrior code and considered prejudice for a leader to force a warrior into the tender ranking; each cat must be allowed the opportunity to serve their clan and decide on their own if they can adapt to warrior life with any existing ailments. Some cats of disability make fine warriors and others have trouble, it's as simple as that.
Tender duties include maintaining nests, watching kits, watching the prey pile, standing guard outside camp, helping gather herbs, helping deliver kits, telling stories, reinforcing the burrow walls, things of the like. These are vital duties to ensure the clan runs well and healthy, but ones that a warrior or elder may not be able to tend to.
A leader must agree that a warrior/apprentice shall become a tender; if the leader thinks a warrior should continue trying before retiring as a tender, they may push them forward. If a leader can note they are having serious difficulty, then they shall grant them the ranking. No ceremony is held.
Tenders can sleep in whatever den they prefer, but not the medicine den or with kits. Some clan cats 'hire' tenders to watch their kits or clean their nests in exchange for prey.
